Karnak Temple’s Great Hypostyle Hall Returns to Glory After Restoration of 95% of its Columns

The Great Hypostyle Hall in Karnak Temple, Egypt, has been restored, with 95% of its columns undergoing restoration. Egyptian restorers from the Supreme Council of Antiquities, in collaboration with universities and the Luxor Restoration Institute, led the project. They successfully removed sand and dust from the columns, revealing the original engravings and colors. The restoration adhered to global conservation standards, and the second phase began promptly after completing the first. Karnak Temple is the largest ancient Egyptian religious complex, with the Hypostyle Hall being a significant feature. The initial phase focused on restoring 28 out of 134 columns in the hall, each towering at a height of 20 meters.
